JoeyL "Halloween in Brooklyn"

I preferred this series of portraits a great deal more than previous artists viewed in this section.

Joey tells the whole story within his series. Beginning with the ad poster for buying suits in the local supermarket. Ending with journey home.

His images are a mix of studio, studio with props and outdoor. They narrate the whole event. From the young children going out early to the adults tripping home late at night on trains. He has the obvious advantage of a crew and a large battery operated light box which improves the quality of his images but at the same time retains the natural look.

Shooting in black and white gives real effect to the images and assisting to create darkness in the world of demons and monsters.

Halloween to the Americans is a much bigger even than in Europe show shooting in the biggest city in the USA was a great way to capture the child dressed up to the fanatic. The city has them all and they are well presented within this set.

The mix of venues for me adds greater depth and realism to the set. If it was purely street or studio based the images would be nothing more than fancy dress against canvas. By using the street, Joeyl gives us an insight to the reality seen by the member of the public walking around NYC on this very public and enjoyable holiday.
